Zachary was born by emergency c-section weighing only 3 lbs 7oz at 35 weeks gestation. He was near heart-failure. Unable to breath on his own, doctors rushed him to the Neo-Natal-Intensive-Care-Unit and put him on a ventilator. For the next 30 days, Zachary stayed in an incubator and slowly began growing stronger and healthier every day. Zach came home to us weighing only 4 lbs. 5 oz. He was beautiful and healthy. Doctors said he would be delayed as any premature baby would, but remarked that he would be normal and healthy overall. On Oct. 3, 2007, Zachary started experiencing jackknife convulsions that forced his hands up, his eyes to roll back, and his torso to collapse forward. The seizures were called West Syndrome. That diagnosis led to an MRI which revealed severe brain damage and Zachary was diagnosed with spastic-quadriplegia cerebral palsy. Medication stopped the seizures and today he is both seizure and medication free.
Zachary started traditional therapies right away - physical and occupational. After two years of the traditional therapies, Zachary seemed to be getting "comfortable" with the therapies. We decided to pursue an aggressive therapy program and that led us to Colorado Foundation for Conductive Education. It was tough at first to see Zachary be challenged so much and struggle, but it has been amazing for him. After just a month of once a week sessions, his cognitive skills have opened up along with his communication. We love the CE approach to independence and ability for each child. Judit is absolutely loving and patient with our son, who can be feisty during therapy. We look forward to Zachary's growth, development and learning through this thorough therapy program.
