Libby
Libby and her twin brother, James, were born in April 2001, 11 weeks premature. Libby was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when she was 5 weeks old. Libby has always been a fighter. She came home from the hospital weighing 4 lbs. Libby started receiving therapy when she was only 6 months old and was always a hard worker in her traditional therapy sessions. When Libby began preschool at 3 years, we knew that she was going to be able to advocate for herself. In 2007, Libby attended her first 4 week Conductive Education camp in Arizona. Before attending camp Libby struggled to gain strength and flexibility. At the start of camp she would not put any weight on her legs and she struggled to stand supported. By the end of Conductive Ed camp Libby had taken 120 steps fully weight bearing on her legs and only needed to be supported in the hips by the conductor. Our family was so amazed at her progress. We knew Conductive Education was the only treatment that would give Libby the push and drive she needed to walk. When we asked Libby if she wanted to do more Conductive Education Libby would reply, "Yes, because I want to walk." Libby recognizes that CE provides her with the skills she needs to become independent. The conductor tells us that Libby is always asking her if the particular exercise they are working on will help her walk. She is motivated and we can't wait for her to attend more camps to get that gigantic push she needs to get to her next goal.
